W
e’ve arrived at our
third tutorial on
how to create
artwork in Media
Molecule’s amazing
software, Dreams.
This time around, I’ll take you
through the process of building a
complete scene using only a few
items. The purpose of this is to
show you how to make optimised
scenes in Dreams – scenes that
could potentially span many
kilometres in-game without having
a heavy impact on performance.
I’ll also talk a bit about how to
organise your creations, and how
to make ‘smart objects’ that you
can edit after using in the scene,
and then see those edits
reflected across all instances of
the object.
If you’re clever about how you
use your items in Dreams, you
can make very detailed scenes
indeed, as clones of objects have
close to zero impact on a scene’s
overall performance.
I use PlayStation Move
controllers in these tutorials, but
you’ll be able to do the same
work using the DualShock 4.
