Landscapes. Pastel is a great sketching medium for
working outdoors. The importance of simplifying
the landscape and composing on location will be
discussed and applied. Emphasis, values, colors,
edges, emotional involvement, atmospheric
and linear perspective will be discussed and
demonstrated.

workshops are best known for being honest andfun as well as practical and informative. She openly
shares her personal painting techniques and
creative process; yet, her relaxed teaching style
helps artists let go of fear in order to create raw,
free, and honest work.
4/16-4/18/20, Mitchell Albala, Contemporary
Impressionism. Impressionists filled their paintings
with brilliant color and created an entirely new
color model for depicting natural light. Learn the
key to working with this “color-priority” system:
that darker tonalities are rejected in favor of lighter-
value colors. Strong value contrasts are replaced by
color contrasts.
4/17-4/19/20, Elizabeth St. Hilaire, Paper Painting –
Fabulous Florals. Students learn to make a beautiful
palette of colors by painting paper with various
patterns and colors. Then learn to create an under-
painting and tricks of collaging paper to create a
unique and ‘painterly’ collage.
4/24-4/26/20, Jennifer Mercede, Permission to
Play. Through various guided activities, including
scribbling and doodling and using text and working
intuitively from photos we will practice letting go of
the final outcome and find that art can be a process
of discovery! You will learn to let your intuition guide
your artistic choices.
