‘Instagram make-up’ – think unnaturally full lips,
sharp feline eyes and a mega dose of highlighter and
cheek contouring – is still going strong, so too are
filters and editing apps like Facetune to smooth skin
and make eyes appear bigger and brighter. The
trouble is, such an intensely uniform look sucks the
individuality and diversity out of beauty. ‘The desire
to mimic celebrities and influencers is creating
a misguided idea of perfection,’ says Pycroft. Instead,
try blazing your own trail and celebrating your unique
style. Ask yourself: ‘Why am I copying this look? Does
it suit my face?’ ‘Take some time to question if your
DESIGNER
BE YOURSELF
make-uplook is enhancing your uniqueness,’ says
Pycroft. ‘Your individuality is what makes you stand
out. No one ever changed the beauty scene by just
following the crowd.’ So let freckles show through by
using a tinted moisturiser such as Nars Pure Radiant
Tinted Moisturiser SPF 30. If you have fair lashes, try
a brown mascara like Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara
4D in Perfect Brown instead of heavy black. And
if you’re pale, skip the self-tan and use Suqqu Shimmer
Liquid Blush in Raspberry Red for a healthy flush.■
