October 13, 2019We are sad to inform you
that Norman passed away
unexpectedly on October 13, 2019,
in Vancouver.
Norman had a notable career as a
West-coast fisherman. He owned
and captained the 80 foot fishing
vessel “Midnight Sun.” With a
loyal crew, he fished for halibut in
the Bering Sea and the Alaska Gulf,
for salmon and herring off the BC
Coast, and for tuna off the Oregon
Coast. He was highly qualified as
a vessel owner/operator, with
certification as Diesel Engineer,
Navigator, and Master of a Vessel
to 350 tons. In addition, he had
many years of expert seafaring
apprenticeship under the tutelage
of his Norwegian-born father,
Captain Knute Floe. In a fiercely
competitive industry, Norman
was revered for his senseof
fairness and calm restraint. His
quiet and unassuming manner
belied the skill, judgment and
courage that were the foundation
of his success in the industry.
Norman retired to Galiano
Island, where he made good
friends, and where he enjoyed
ocean-going activities of a less
challenging nature, including
pleasure-boating, sports-fishing,
and exploring the scenic cruising
grounds of the Gulf Islands.
Norman was predeceased by
his parents and siblings. He
leaves to mourn his wife of 49
years, Catherine (nee Sheehan);
his son, Ken and daughter-
in-law, Katie; and grandsons,
Knute and Torsten. He loved
and was much loved by the
many members of the extended
Floe and Sheehan families. He
enjoyed a special bond with
nephew Kris, a fellow fisherman,
hunter, and outdoorsman.
Norman suffered a series of
health challenges in recent years,
which he met in a calm, dignified
and stoic way, and without
complaint. We are grateful to
the many wonderful medical
and caregiving personnel, who
helped him maintain a good
quality of life to the end.
A Celebration of Life will be held at
University Golf Club, Vancouver,
on Saturday, November 2, from

Hayes, also known as Jim and

died on Monday, September 30,
2019 at the age of 81. Jim will be
dearly remembered with lots

Known for his ceaseless drive
to bring social improvements

Bonnie was born in
Edmonton but spent her
formative years in Ontario
where she was educated at
the Bishop Strachan School
for girls. After graduation,
Bonnie continued her
education out west at Mount
Royal College in Calgary
where she achieved a
diploma in Social Work.
Bonnie also attended Sir
George William (Concordia)
University prior to embarking
on her career as a social
worker.
After four years, Bonnie
transitioned into a career in
realestatewhereshebecame
the president of the Oakville
Milton Real Estate Board. She
also established her catering
business where she served
herfamous,"BeefonaBun."
Bonnie was an outgoing and
gregarious person and was
able to establish a sense of
community wherever she
went. From her bridge club,
life-long friends of over 50
years, the community at the
Toronto Golf Club, "Table
One" at the King’s Arms and
her tight-knit circle of friends
in South Florida, Bonnie was
always the centerpiece. She
was kind, generous, and a
fiercely loyal confidant.
Bonnie’s dedication was best
exemplified in her
relationship with her mother.
She loved her family deeply
and was incredibly proud of
her heritage and the
accomplishments of the Hays
Clan. Bonnie knew her family
history intimately and was
always keen to pass on the
story of the Hays legacy of
contribution to international
agriculture to the next
generation.
Bonnie was predeceased by
her parents, Ardith and
Thomas E. Hays and her dear
cousinAmbrissClermont.She
is survived by her brother
Tom (Marcia), nephews Dan
(Nuria) and Michael (Jen), and
great-nephews Hugo, Alec,
and Oscar. Bonnie is also
survived by her cousins,
Lorree (Michael), Kim (Calvin)
and their children, Faith,
Ethan, Graham, Olivia and
Lily. Known affectionally as
Aunt Bo and Grandma Bo to
friendsandfamily,Bonniewill
be dearly missed by all her
loving cousins with whom
she maintained close
relationships, as well as her
wide circle of friends in
CanadaandtheUnitedStates.
A Memorial Service to
commemorate her life will be
held on Wednesday, October

General Hospital in her 81st year.
Beloved wife of Edward Hill.
Predeceased by her parents,
Philip and Norah Lawson, and her
three brothers, Terence, Philip
and John. Loving aunt to Jennifer
Cove, Janet Masson, Susan Hill,
AnnMcArthur,AinslieLawson,Lee
Ann Lawson and Jo Ann Bourque.
Marcia attended St. Clement’s
School and was Head Girl in
the graduating class of 1956.
She went on to the University
of Toronto where she enrolled
in the Modern Languages and
History course. Upon graduation
in 1960, she accepted a one year
teaching assignment in Germany,
sponsored by the German
government. In 1962, she returned
to University of Toronto and
enrolled in the Faculty of Library
Science. Following graduation,
she joined Imperial Oil Limited as
a research librarian.
During her illness, Marcia received
loving care from the staff at
the Hazelton Place Retirement
Residence and from the CBI Home
Healthcare caregivers. Heartfelt
appreciation is extended to all of
them and to Marcia’s special pal,
Janina De Leon.
Marcia had many interests and
many friends. To know her was to
love her.
Friends may visit at the Morley
Bedford Funeral Home, 159
Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stoplights
west of Yonge St.) on Sunday,
October 27th from 1-4 p.m. In lieu

Raised in Weston, Valerie
mastered piano as a young child
and progressed to organ studies
at Royal Conservatory of Music
as a teenager. After achieving
ARCT diplomas in both piano
and organ, she studied choral
directing. Over the years, Valerie
served as organist and choir
director for many parishes in
Toronto. At family gatherings
and special events Valerie spread
her love of music by playing the
piano, the trombone, the guitar
and any other musical instrument
she could find.
Valeriededicated35yearstopublic
education as a classroom teacher,
music specialist, and music
program leader. Upon retirement,
she dedicated herself to caringfor
her husband, grandchildren, and
friends in need.
Valerie is best remembered by
her family for her dedication to
caring for others, her passion for
sailing at the RCYC, and her loveof
summers at Loon Lake, Muskoka.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr.

of Sunnybrook ICU for their
compassionate care.

Doting and feisty mother of
Dr. William (Gina) and
Gregory (Meghan Oxley),
grandmother of Spenser,
Katherine and Elizabeth. The
only child of John Reginald
and Elizabeth Ann (née
McFarland) Napier of Belfast
and Newcastle, Co. Down,
she found a job at A.V. Roe
(1950s) on the Arrow project
soon after arriving in Canada.
Work at Kraft Foods and
Moffatt (1950s-1960s)
preceded her hiatus from the
workforce to raise her
children.
She volunteered in their
elementaryschools,tookfield
trips, attended all
performances, and froze her
rear in hockey rinks. She
returned to the workforce
with Sears Canada
(1980s-2000s) where she
enjoyed new friendships. Her
involvement with St. Mark’s
Presbyterian Church for more
than forty-five years as a
congregant and Trustee
provided community and
deepened her faith. Her
hapless roasting was
outshone by her deft touch
with pastry for seasonal fruit
pies from spring to fall, then
mincemeat and butter tarts,
and steak and kidney for
dinner. Her example, and her
fondness for Beniamino Gigli
and Mahalia Jackson,
enrichedherchildren.
For the last twenty years her
grandchildren enriched her.
She willbemissedsorelyand
remembered with laughter,
smiles,andasaloyalfriend.
As per her wishes, cremation
has taken place with a
celebration of life to be held
atalaterdate.DEATHSTHERESA JO YCEIt is with deep sadness that we
announce the passing of Theresa
Ellen (Tenyke, McEwan) Joyce,
who died peacefully at home
in Mississauga on Thanksgiving
Monday 2019. Born in Hamilton,
Ontario, Theresa lived a full
and adventurous life which in
many ways resembled that of
a rollercoaster. She, along with
her sister, Geraldine (D), spent
several of their formative years in
an orphanage until their mother,
Edna May-Marie (Cunningham)
Tenyke (D), married Patrick
Disalvo (D) and they were able
to become a family once again.
Theresa’s wild spirit bloomed
early when, at age 17, she and
her then-love, Richard McEwan
(D), ran away to Winnipeg in
order to marry without parental
consent and give birth to their
first child, Donald Alexander, in
January 1954, followed soon after
by Richard Patrick in January 1955.
After the couple’s separation,
while working as a secretary at
Westinghouse in Hamilton, she
met and fell in love withRon
Joyce (D) at a singles dance and
began a long distance romance
while he served in the Canadian
Navy. The couple soon married
and gave birth to their first
daughter, Rhonda Marie (1964)
before embarking on their next
big journey in the Franchise
business, first with Dairy Queen
then, famously, Tim Horton
Doughnuts. Grant Dean (1966) and
Steven Wade (1969) completed
Theresa’s family of five.
It is not just a saying that behind
every successful man is a hard-
working woman. Theresa was
extremely instrumental in the
early days of the rising empire
that became the Canadian icon
that Tim Horton’s is today. First
by raising her new family while
working in the back of the early
franchises then by keeping
a beautiful home and single-
handedly throwing epic parties so
ubiquitousoftheroaringseventies
when it seemed everyone’s star
was rising. She earned her pilot’s
license and became a member of
the Ninety-Nines women’s flying
organization in her early forties.
She moved to Japan for a year to
teach English in her late fifties, got
her motorcycle license when she
was 72, moved to the countryof
Panama at 74 before settling back
to Ontario at the ageof 79.
Theresa’s legacy will live on in her
nine grandchildren Alexis, Skye,
Wesley, April, Bradley, Astra,
George, Ava and Daven. She will
be remembered by her nephew
and niece, Garfield and Geordine;
her dear friend and daughter-in-
law, Lynn McEwan; and incredible
caregivers, Jennifer Capati and
Lucy DeMelo.
