As far as paper is concerned, go to a chain discount store and buy
yourself a ream of 8.5 × 11–inch copy paper. It’s what I use. It’s
easy to find and ridiculously inexpensive—usually 500 sheets, for a
little over a penny a sheet.
Because the paper is lightweight, it becomes translucent when the
light from a light box shines through it. This is helpful when you are
polishing up rough sketches.
Art paper from art stores comes in a variety of measurements and
thicknesses. The problem with thick, heavy paper is that you cannot
see though it on a light box. Typically, it’s also expensive, and you
don’t get many sheets per pad. I would also steer away from paper
with tooth or grain, which is more frequently used for charcoal and
pastel.
