Basic Drawing Made Amazingly Easy (Made Amazingly Easy Series)

(sharon) #1

Now that we’ve covered the basics for drawing the human head, it’s
time to put them into practice.
We’ll start off with an easy-to-draw front view and then move on
to other popular angles of the head. The key to being able to draw
faces at any angle is establishing the foundation shape of the head
correctly from the outset and then using the center line and eye line
to lock the features into place. If you concentrate on these things first,
you’ll increase your chances for a successful drawing.

THE FRONT VIEW

Believe it or not, symmetrical features of the face, like the eyes and
ears, are not always as symmetrical as they appear to be. If you
were to look very closely at another person, you would discover
small differences in the symmetry of these features. Therefore, if
you end up with minor, immaterial differences in the symmetry of
your drawings, don’t worry.
Still, it’s good practice to do a quick spot check before you finish
your drawings. Are both eyes the same amount of space away from
the edge of the head? Are the ears on the same level? How about the
eyebrows? Do they start off high and then angle downward toward
the bridge of the nose at a similar angle?
