Haunted_-_Issue_24_-_All_About_Ghosts_2019

(Marcin) #1

For us the night was going
fast. The mid May morn was
mild and dark as at around
One o`clock we trudged
expectantly to the most
desired location we could
access on the partially
restricted site... “The
Dungeon”... actually the castle
storeroom...during the time of
Mary, Queen of Scots captivity,
we assumed!

Now I should explain... my
friend Victoria... (she of
putting the handbag down
and forgetting it...) is a keen
historian, who had been
long hankering after a night
time visit to Tutbury... Mary
Queen of Scots is her heroine
and Tutbury was infamous

as being considered Mary’s
only proper jail. Poor old girl
developed rheumatism here
after spending a fair bit of
time, lodged in a little cruck
house near this “dungeon”
area...she understandably
detested the place! I should
also explain that we were
not with the Tutbury Castle
custodians, nor being
guided around by their local
paranormal team. We were
guests of the very professional
and seasoned Dark Soul
Event’s team... about
thirteen of us entered that
dark confine.... the energy in
that room being palpable as
we began to feel circled by
intentional energies... was
that a shadow man stood

guard on the steps up to the
wooden barn like door? Were
those the shades of men at
arms prowling around the
pitch-black room? The spidey
senses were working overtime
as we stood holding each
other’s clammy hands in a
protective circle of seance...

“Was that a knock...??”

A rap was heard from one of
the indeterminable corners
of the Dungeon... not a loud
rap... the knocking sounded
like it was emanating from the
depths of the stone fabric...
so we assumed, as you should,
that there was some sound
contamination encroaching
from the exterior... (there

were a horde of Viking re-
enactors encamped outside
for the weekends historic
activity event... we did hear
them snoring classically as
we crept past their tents)
but the electrically charged
atmosphere developing in
the room was building up so
dramatically we didn’t wish to
dispel it in anyway by dashing
out to catch a wildly bearded
Valhalla wannabe having
a laugh at our expense...
this wall percussion was
something different... as a
more persistent gently rolling
rap started to build up...
then.... started to drum from
out of thin air in different
parts of the confines...

Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned four times at Tutbury
Castle between February 1569 and December 1585
