Sewing Instructions

  1. On the wrong side of a 22 – 9" medium gray solid
squares, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner.

  2. With right sides together, layer a marked medium
gray solid square on top of a 9" red print square, then
sew ¼" from both sides of the drawn line.

3. Cut on the drawn line of the unit from Step 2 to
create two HST units, then trim each to measure 8½".

  1. Repeat Steps 1-3 to make a total of 16 red/gray HST
    units.

  2. Repeat Steps 2-3 with eight 9” green print squares
and eight marked 9” medium gray solid squares to
make a total of sixteen green/gray HST units.

  3. Repeat Steps 2-3 with four 9” black print squares and
four marked 9” medium gray solid squares to make a
total of eight black/gray HST units.

  4. Repeat Steps 2-3 with two 9” teal print squares and
two marked 9” medium gray solid squares to make a
total of four teal/gray HST units.

  5. Repeat Step 1, marking two 9” bright red print squares.

  6. Repeat Steps 2-3 with two 9” teal print squares and
the two marked 9” bright red print squares from Step 8
to make a total of four red/teal HST units.

  7. Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, sew the
48 HST units from Steps 1-9 together with four 8½”
medium gray solid corner squares and 12 – 8½” dark
gray print squares into eight rows of eight blocks.

  8. Sew the eight block rows from Step 10 to complete
    the quilt center.

  9. Sandwich the quilt top, batting and backing; baste.
Quilt as desired then bind. Suzanne chose to have
Tawny Oland machine quilt for her with circles in the
medium gray background and directional lines within
the colored blocks for a striking effect.
