CONNIE

CONSTANCE

It has been 50 years since Penneys opened
its first store on Mary Street, Dublin.
Today, Primark has 372 stores in 12
countries. Reflecting on London, musician
Connie Constance concurs the same
principles run through the city’s DNA as
they did then. “The thing I like most
about the city is the freedom of self-
expression,” Connie admits to Vogue.
“There are a lot of places you can go and
not feel judged about what you’re wearing,
what you look like or what your interests
are.” On the subject of interests, the
Watford-born 24-year-old has been able
to evolve her childhood love of music and
dance into a fully fledged career. Connie’s
skill set isn’t the only thing that has grown
with her, either. Her wardrobe has
developed to amass myriad memories and
moments. “I feel like you create your
own archive of clothes. Well, I have. You
just keep adding to it, and maybe try
something new out each time.”

To celebrate Primark’s 50th
anniversary, Vogue met two
young women inspired by and
inspiring their surroundings...
