to define between the bones and skin.
Make thinner near the edge and thicker
near the bone. Finally, add veins.
Step 25.
Put a ball of cling film under the wing and
crease along the bones with the palette
knife underneath and your thumb down
the centre of the V. Attach to the body
with the cling film cushion still in place.
Steps 26a & b.
Make the last kitty leg and paw. Pinch the
toes for claws. Bend against your nail into
a curve. Position all toes, feet and claws.
Step 27.
Position the last limb and add a ball of
gum paste to create a chest for the head
to affix to. Add the kitty head with more
gum paste underneath. Add tan gum paste
where the bat neck goes and position.
Smooth gum paste into cracks to support
the heads and form the neck. Make slits
in the head, dip the ears into water and
insert. Work gum paste frills with the
dresden tool and add to the ears.
Step 28.
When dusting two pieces that can't be
separated, cover the second figure with
cling film. Dust the kitty with pink on
the nose and toenails, lavender in the
shadows and dark blue for subtle depth.
Steps 29 & 30.
Dust the bat with brown in the shadows
of the fur, under the legs, the wing bones
and wing patterns. Blend well. Give a coat
of yellow to highlight the face, eyes, wing
bones and fingertips. Add lavender on the
top of the wings and tip of the nose.

Step 31.
With the 8” cake, cut from the middle
straight down at an angle.
Step 32.
Go right angles from the first cut and slice
downwards. Remove the piece. If any
cake remains in the centre, trim away.
Step 33.
Add a layer of buttercream on top of the
uncut half of the cake. Flip each removed
section over and place on top.
Steps 34 & 35.
Slice an X in the front. Cut deeper in the
centre and shallower on the edges. Carve
out the centre of the cake. Remove each
quarter as you carve. Keep the scraps.
Step 36.
Round the bottom and top edges of the
bowl curving inwards a little at a time.
