Make at least two sketches
It’s so easy to settle with the first sketch you do, but don’t give in to the temptation so easily! You’ll often find the second or third attempt at
a sketch is stronger than the first. And if you do go with the first sketch, at least you’ll know it’s the best option once you’ve done more sketches.

Think in silhouettes
A good piece of card art can be reduced to silhouettes and still read clearly.
When you’re posing your characters or showing an environment, look at just the
silhouette and ask yourself if it’s still clear what’s happening. If it’s not, fix it!
Confusing card art is not good card art.

Make the action fit the storytelling
Card art often shows dynamic action, but it doesn’t
always have to. The approach you take depends on the
purpose of the card. In this case, we want a more peaceful
moment. But if you’re keen to build up a whole portfolio
of card art then it might be good to show that you can
handle action-packed scenes, too.
