Typically, these records are written onto the log tape in a chronological manner. As a
business event occurs, a record is written to reflect the occurrence of the event.
At first glance, these data might look like nonrepetitive data. Indeed, from a physical
occurrence of data standpoint, that is a valid perspective. But there is another way to
look at the data found on a log tape. That perspective is that the log tape is merely a
chronological accumulation of a bunch of repetitive records. A “logical” perspective of a
log tape is seen in Fig. 9.1.20.
