We can’t stop ourselves from being exposed to pollution on a
daily basis. It’s in the air we breathe, especially if you’re a city
dweller. What you can do is use the right products to protect and
nourish your skin to keep it healthy and create a barrier to help
block harmful toxins from penetrating your pores. “Environmen-
tal pollution is a real problem for the skin’s barrier, which needs
to breathe and detoxify,” says Sophie Menier, beautician instruc-
tor for skin-care company Esthederm. “Without protection, the
risk of having severe dehydration, irritation or worn, tired look-
