ACTIVATE: THE GLOBAL
CITIZEN MOVEMENT
NAT GEO, 10pm
Hollywood megastar Hugh Jackman
has joined a call to eradicate extreme
poverty by 2030.
Deeply affected by the crisis, The
Greatest Showman actor is just one of
several celebs, including Usher and
Rachel Brosnahan, who has turned
activist to push the Global Citizen
Movement campaign.
Hugh says: “I was lucky enough to
be born into a situation where there
were basic necessities of life – food,
shelter, clothing and education were
fairly available to me. Nothing I did, I
just happened to get it. And then
there’s a billion people on the planet...
nothing they did – don’t get it.
“There is no reason why these
essential basics of life aren’t available
to everybody on the planet.”
In this affecting film, we hear from
some of the 700 million people who
live in extreme poverty in the world –
mothers crying that they can’t feed
their kids and children who’ve dropped
out of school to find work – as Hugh
rallies leaders to effect change.

LOOSE WOMEN
ITV, 12.30pm
Oh how we sniggered when we
heard there was a new panel
show called Loose Women – a
bold, cheeky title with an
all-female line-up.
That was 20 years ago.
The first show, back on
September 6, 1999, saw Nadia
Sawalha, Jane Moore, Kaye
Adams and Karren Brady sit
behind the now famous desk.
Over two decades the show
has gathered a loyal fan base,
launched award-winning mental
health and body confidence
campaigns, and the women have
interviewed everyone from Oprah
Winfrey to Whoopi Goldberg via
Nicola Sturgeon, Eva Longoria
and Sir Patrick Stewart.
Big name guest panellists have
included Goldie Hawn, Sharon
Osbourne and Mel B.
Today is an anniversary
celebration, with a bumper
number of Loose Women rotating
hosting duties, including Andrea
McLean, Christine Lampard and
Saira Khan.
Expect lots of nostalgia with
some on-air surprises too.
And the hosts will challenge
each other on their Loose Women
expert knowledge in a special
anniversary quiz.

SCARBOROUGH
BBC1, 9.30pm
KNOWING this new comedy has
been penned by the man who wrote
ITV’s brash and hugely popular
show Benidorm tells you everything
you might need to know about
Scarborough.
Following the cancellation of the
soapy Spanish comedy after 11 years, its
creator Derren Litten has turned his
attentions to the Yorkshire coast.
And aside from the weather, there are
plenty of similarities – namely the
seaside location, pubs and karaoke. In
fact, lots of the action takes place in
karaoke pub The Ship, with a hair salon
also a main focal point. But the faces are
a little less perma-tanned.
Comedian Jason Manford and ex
Corrie star Catherine Tyldesley take on
the leading roles, playing Mike and
Karen, back together five years after
they split up but still struggling.
Stephanie Cole gets the lion’s share of
the best one-liners as Marion, Karen’s
grumpy and cutting mother.
Elsewhere, Claire Sweeney is a breath
of fresh air as maneater Hayley, all
bouffant hair, leopard print and high-
waisted denim, while Jake Canuso – aka
Mateo to Benidorm fans – plays
Hayley’s wannabe gangster boyfriend
Tony Peroni. And Derren himself is The
Ship’s resident DJ, Jack.
This is very much end-of-the-pier
comedy with plenty of toilet humour
and characters like cartoons.
They obsess over curry pies, have
arguments in the arcade, and every
now and then someone belts out a hit
on the karaoke machine.
It’s life, love, friends and family, all at
soap opera comedy pace. It won’t be
everyone’s cup of Yorkshire, but if you
like Benidorm you’ll drink it up.

As a gunshot echoes around Albert Square,
events inside The Vic go from bad to worse with
someone’s life hanging in the balance. As
everything comes to a head, there’s at least one
fatality. But who won’t make it out alive?
Meanwhile, outside the pub, Bianca tries to talk
to Tiffany about everything that happened with
Evie but will Tiffany take on board what she has
to say? What a tragic week in Walford.

CORONATION STREET
ITV, 7.30pm and 8.30pm
There’s nothing like a wedding to kick-start
arguments. Daniel and Sinead are rowing
because she wants a more low-key affair, while
Daniel accuses her of putting her business first.
In a fury, he suggests they call it off.
Amy is keen to get to know her new sisters and
suggests inviting Emma round for tea.
And Ray has a proposal for Michelle about his
hotel restaurants that leave her flattered.
