Theworld’sŽirsthybrid-poweredexpedition cruise
shipwillbemakinghistoryagainasit becomes the
Žirst ship to be named in Antarctica. Hurtigruten’s
MS Roald Amundsen made maritime history when
it became the Žirst cruise ship to sail on battery
power. This autumn, the ship, named after the
famous polar explorer, will be christened by
breaking a chunk of ice against the ship’s bow
instead of a bottle of champage. The naming
ceremony will honour Amundsen with the
tradition, which he started in 1917 when he
christenedexpeditionshipMaudwithice.
