74 Spotlight 11/2019 FEEDBACK
Dear Ms Khan-Stock
I always read with great interest not only
the monthly magazine Spotlight, but also
its Lehrerbeilage, Spotlight in the Classroom.
Very often I find the challenging and fun
exercises useful, and they are also appre-
ciated by my students.
The board game “A walk through Lon-
don”, in issue 7/2019, immediately caught
my attention. I thought it would be an
interesting activity to do before the sum-
mer holidays, and perhaps even an idea
for a city break. Many thanks for your
support. Yours sincerely

Dear Ms Bochsler-Frei
We’re very happy to hear that you enjoy
Spotlight and our monthly teachers’ news-
letter, Spotlight in the Classroom. I hope you
will have fun doing the London Walks
activity with your students. It is certain-
ly designed to be interactive and fun.
All the best
Petra Daniell, language editor
Dear Mr Schönsee
We are pleased to inform you that you are
the winner of the Spotlight/OISE compe-
tition “Learning in the heart of London”,
which was featured in issue 1/2019 of the
magazine. Congratulations from all of us
at Spotlight!
Can you please confirm that you ac-
cept the prize? It is a one-week language
course as well as half-board accommoda-
tion (breakfast and evening meal) with a
host family.
Kind regards
Inez Sharp, editor-in-chief
Dear Ms Sharp
I’d like to say thanks for the wonderful
time in London. It was a great experi-
ence and pretty international. By the way,
Dagmar Taylor’s series of essays entitled
“...and then I went to the...” about her lan-
guage misinterpretations in Germany
is, to me, the best part of the magazine.
Kind regards
Harald Schönsee, by e-mail
“Hustings” means an election platform,
a circuit of speeches, or the place or pro-
ceedings of an election campaign. It’s a
word that is being used very frequently
right now in press coverage of politics.
In the example here from The Washington
Post, Joe Biden, a former vice president
and current Democratic hopeful, is ob-
served as not making his presence known
out on the campaign trail with the same
intensity as other contenders from his
party. Another of the Post’s writers hopes
that Biden will hurry up and “get on the
hustings and persuade voters why he is
the right man for the job.”
Hustings comes from the Old Norse
word hūsthing, from hūs (house) + thing
(assembly), meaning an official gathering
of all the people important to a leader’s
household.
Example:
“Unlike his other Democratic rivals,
Biden isn’t hitting the public hustings
hard.”
— from The Washington Post

election campaign.
