boarding: £7,830
This small, family-feel prep with a
tree house only reachable by row-
ing boat or rope bridge draws such
respect from parents that the com-
mon theme among them is the
wish that their daughters were able
to join their flourishing sons. Boys
are encouraged to get involved in
everything, whether they are the
best at it or not. The pastoral care
is taken ‘extremely seriously’, with

a strong belief that parents and
teachers should work together.
Staff are not only experts at seek-
ing out a child’s strengths, but at
identifying possible ‘gaps’ and pro-
viding extra help and support. The
energy and enthusiasm of new
Head Chris Carlier has permeated
the school already, spurring the
boys to new heights: last year pu-
pils moved on to senior schools
such as Winchester, Tonbridge,
Sherborne and Charterhouse.

Will Brooks Pupils 316 day and
boarding: 165 boys, 151 girls Faith
C of E Ages 2½–13 Term Fees
Day: £7,220; boarding: £8,805
Head Will Brooks is credited with
much of the school’s success in
recent years, alongside his wife
Amelia. ‘The school is thriving like
it never has before,’ says one parent;

another declares that Brooks is
‘one of the main reasons we moved
to Brambletye, where old-fash-
ioned values are translated into the
modern world’. The school strives
to offer an enriched and contempo-
rary education to prepare students
for their next step. Being kind is
paramount – pupils are as happy
celebrating their peers’ successes as
they are their own – and there is a
wonderful combination of free-
dom and structure. Sport is strong,
with a number of teams enjoying
unbeaten seasons this year and
productions in the purpose-built
theatre are absolutely not to be
missed: Beauty and the Beast was
deemed ‘West End worthy’.
