ANNOTATED ROOM
Getting Their Glitter On
The owners of a Manhattan apartment wanted to add some flash and sizzle to their 1940s space
THE CLIENTSwere empty
nesters looking for a fresh
start in a 1940s Manhattan
building that had been con-
verted into condominiums.
Their directive to designers
Jamie Drake and Caleb An-
derson: Give us “some siz-
zle factor, some shine, some
glitter.”
The existing beams and
soffits created some design
challenges that were over-
come with architectural el-
ements, such as the silver-
leaf ceiling panel over the
dining table and a metal-
and-glass screen off the en-
tryway. These aim to soften
the structural supports.
The apartment makeover
took about a year, and it
cost over $400,000 for new
decor throughout the open-
plan living and dining
room, Mr. Drake says.
The result is “comfort-
able, livable, yet glamor-
ous,”saysMr.Drake,of
New York design firm
Drake/Anderson. Below are
some elements of the liv-
ing-dining room, with
prices.
