Difficulty Rating
The techniques in this tutorial require a
little patience due to drying times (these
will vary dependent on humidity and
time of year, although you can fast-track
this with a dehydrator or using the fan
only setting on your oven). We suggest
starting with decorations first and while
drying, make the cake and fillings.
Step 1.
Cover your tabletop with greaseproof
paper. You’ll need six sheets of wafer
paper. Use pliers to crank a mini spreader.
Experiment and use what works best for
you.
Step 2.
Add white to increase the opacity of the
gel colours. Have paper towel to hand to
wipe the spreader between colours.
Step 3.
Starting at the bottom third of the page,
spread the colours thinly and randomly
beginning with the darker ones.
Step 4.
Add the warmer colours to completely
cover the page. If you don’t like it, you
can overpaint or start over!
