PAPER DOILIES
These come in several different pat-
terns and colors. For easier integra-
tion, choose white or light-colored
paper doilies. They can then be
painted any color to harmonize with
the rest of the painting. Fragments of
a doily are often more intriguing than
the whole thing.
EMBOSSED
WALLPAPER
Pick up samples or small frieze rolls
at a home improvement store. They
come in a variety of patterns that
make wonderful decorative elements
in a mixed-media painting.~nt an inexpensive
way to create a tex-
tured support? Cover
it with matte medium,
then glue on scraps of
creased newspaper.
Finally, paint over the
whole area with gesso
or a light-color opaque
paint. You may need
more than one layer to
hide the newsprint.
