Change is a step towards
finding the true you
“My hair used to be
something I hid behind. Now
it’s something I experiment
with, to push myself out of
my comfort zone.”
Creating change can
impact those around you
“I like to think about how I can
make a difference to people
around me. Positive changes
I make can have a ripple effect
on somebody else’s life.”

hange: like it or not, it’s an
inevitable part of life. And while
it’s something that many of us
fear, style and beauty vlogger
Emma Johnson, also known as
@emmasrectangle, has learnt it’s not so
scary after all. In fact, more often than
not, it’s something to be embraced.
For Emma, change is a tool that’s
allowed her to experiment, trying
out many versions of herself on the
journey to becoming who she is today.
After leaving school at 18, Emma
worked in a beauty shop, dabbling
in creating make-up tutorials,
motivational pep talks and styling
YouTube videos as a hobby – until
one day she made the leap to
full-time vlogger. It was a risk, but
one that made Emma realise that
change could be a force for good, for
both herself and those around her.
“The world is full of possibilities
and opportunities; having confidence
in your decisions allows you to
stay grounded,” says Emma. “If you
embrace change with love and
positivity, you’ll be ready to face
every challenge that’s handed to you.”
Since taking that risk as a teenager,
Emma’s learnt not to be afraid of
who she is and, wherever possible,
to take control of change instead.
Transforming her hair colour is just
one way she can try out different
versions of herself, experimenting
with how she presents herself to the
world. And if she’s not sure of the
one she’s just tried out? It’s no big
deal – she can just try something new.
It’s a power that’s in her hands.
Still not convinced? Read Emma’s
three reasons for embracing change
- because, as she says, “Life is going
to bring it to you no matter what.”
