The Survey

How It Was Done

T

he fourth edition of the Reader’s
Digest Trusted Hospital survey
features a longer list of private hospitals
than ever before. Bringing together the
best private healthcare institutions (in
different specialities) across 17 cities, the
list contains names that have been
trusted widely by consumers in each
location for years.
This is, by no means,
an easy task. And
especially so, at a time
when numerous medical
institutions indulge in
dishonest practices and
take advantage of unsus-
pecting individuals. It is,
thus, critical to identify the parameters
that will help people judge what a
‘trusted hospital’ really is.
Ipsos, one of the world’s foremost
research groups, employed a rigorous
method to determine the best facilities
out there. The hospitals chosen were
those that offered services in at least
three specialities or more. The lists were

then vetted by healthcare experts. The
research agency reached out to
1,514 people, all key decision-makers in
their families, between the ages of
18 and 60, and asked them to rate the
most trusted hospitals based on several
criteria, the importance of which was
given due weightage and calculated
using statistical models.
Finally, the composite
score received by each
hospital determined the
final results.
The parameters used
tell us exactly what
we look for in a reliable
healthcare institution—
capability and credibility of doctors,
compliance with ethical procedures,
accessibility and affordability
among them.
With a focus on people’s perceptions,
this survey hopes to show patients the
way to the right healthcare destination,
without having to compromise on their
trust and faith in the system. „
