For the first time the show is partnering
with several national and regional industri-
al organisations, drawing on their expertise
and local knowledge to fine-tune the event
to the needs of the manufacturing sup-
ply chain across the region. The event is
supported by the two main regional aero-
space and automotive business organisa-
tions, the North West Aerospace Alliance
(NWAA) and the Northern Automotive Al-
liance (NAA). The aerospace sector in the
North West accounts for roughly a quarter
of the UK’s £32bn aerospace business,
employs some 25,000 skilled workers and
supports a rich eco-system of suppliers
throughout the country. The North West
automotive cluster employs some 16,200
people and directly generates some £9bn,
or 12 percent, of the total UK automotive
manufacturing output, placing it as the
second most significant region for auto-
motive manufacture in the UK.
Along with industry-specific event part-
ners, the show is supported by several
other prestigious national organisations,
such as Composites UK, the Society of
Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT),
the Gear & Toolmakers Association
(GTMA), the British Gear Association
(BGA) and the Confederation of British
Metalforming (CBM). Each brings a wealth
of technical knowledge and experience
to the event, providing both a directly
accessible industry resource and knowl-
edge-sharing opportunities via the show’s
free technical seminar programme. The
synergy between aerospace/automotive
and technology-based organisations such
as Composites UK means that advanced
materials are particularly well represent-
ed at Northern Manufacturing 2019, with
firms such as igus UK, Polydist and Cov-
entive Composites offering a wide range
of polymer components, innovations and
materials for a wide variety of applications.
Despite the current uncertainties, invest-
ment – particularly in advanced manufac-
turing technologies – remains a priority for
many engineering SMEs across the North.
Consequently, Northern Manufacturing is a
popular opportunity for visitors to see the lat-
est machinery being put through its paces,
from 5-axis machining to 3D printing. Major
national vendors returning for 2019 include
XYZ Machine Tools, Haas Automation, La-
ser Lines, Tri-tech 3D and HPC Laser. Other
top suppliers include Middlesbrough-based
Dynamic Machine Tools and EDM special-
ists Makrep EDM Solutions.
Production hardware on show includes
marking, printing and traceability sys-
tems from Brady and Dakota Integrated
Solutions, workspace storage from Bott,
metrology systems from FARO, Zeiss and
Nikon Metrology, and manufacturing soft-
ware from CIM Software, ANSY Space-
claim, 123-Insight and Redthorn. One of
the notable first-time exhibitors at North-
ern Manufacturing 2019 is industrial power
transmission specialists Ringspann UK –
part of the global Ringspann GmbH group.
Ringspann provides a wide range of power
transmission components, plus associ-
ated hardware such as brakes, overload
clutches and condition monitoring.
As the region’s only electronics show,
Northern is also an important event for
electronic components, design and con-
tract manufacturing. Sensor specialist ESI
Technology returns for 2019, along with
Fischer Connectors, Luso Electronics and
CIE Electronics amongst many others.
Other electronics production hardware to
be found at Northern 2019 includes sol-
dering, de-soldering and rework stations
from PACE Europe, cable preparation and
surface mount production from Turner
Electronics and test equipment from Yelo.
Electronics manufacturing service provid-
ers present for 2019 include Advanced
Manufacturing Services, LCL Electronics,
UK Electronics, Wireco and EMSPROTO.
Entry to Northern Manufacturing & Elec-
tronics 2019 and on-site parking is free
with easy access by road. EventCity is very
accessible by public transport from central
Manchester. To register online for free tick-
ets simply visit http://www.industrynorth.co.uk

N
orthern Manufacturing &
Electronics, the North’s own
industrial technology and electronics
show, returns to EventCity, Manchester
from October 2-3. The show is the
partner event to the successful
Southern Manufacturing show and
follows a similar format and scope, but
with a distinct regional focus reflecting
the unique character of engineering
enterprise in the area.
