Bedbugs ‘ate my grandson
alive’ on £12,000 holiday
INFECTION Bites, some of which had turned into open sores, on four-year-old Alfie’s body
rooms at the hotel, disagrees. She said:
“Alfie was four at the time and he
definitely contracted an infection from
bed bugs in the bed.
“It turned into massive, open sores. I
look at those pictures and I think that
poor little thing, he was eaten alive.
“This is a four-star hotel. It’s an awful
lot to pay to go on holiday. You do not
expect to leave with an infection.”
TUI responded: “We’ve thoroughly
investigated the issues related to Alfie’s
bites and although we weren’t able to
confirm their cause, we have offered a
gesture of goodwill to reflect the impact
this would have had. Unfortunately, this
has been declined.”
It added: “We’d like to reassure
customers we regularly audit all hotels
we feature in respect of health and
safety, including hygiene.”
Karen, from Redbourne,
Herts, was offered two
payments of £2,322 and
£1,275 which she declined.

Gran wants TUI to refund cost of hols
A GRAN wants a £12,000 holiday
refund after claiming her grandson
was “eaten alive” by bed bugs.
Four-year-old Alfie Garlick was left
with infected open sores on his legs and
arms after a stay at a four-star TUI hotel.
His gran Karen Levick, 47, says the
family’s two-week trip to Salou, Spain,
for her daughter Kate Garlick’s
honeymoon, descended into horror.
After returning home in July last year,
Alfie, now five, who is Kate’s son, was
diagnosed with Staphylococcus aureus,
an infection in the same family as MRSA.
Karen insists the bites, treated with
antibiotics, came from his infested bed.
She also claims the hotel was filthy
with dirty plates not removed from their
rooms for days. The holiday giant apolo-
gised and offered a partial
refund but Karen wants the
full £12,000 back.
TUI says the bites could
have been from any insect
