WORSE BETTERLand Rover Range Rover Sport
Though the Sport has a similar level of interior plushness as the
stately Range Rover it is based upon, it focuses on handling prowess
and less on ride comfort and off-road ability. Low-range gearing is
optional. For 2019 an inline six-cylinder engine replaces the original
V6. Supercharged V8 and V6 diesel engines are also available. An
eight-speed automatic is standard. The Sport delivers an engaging
driving experience, with taut, agile handling, but the ride is stiff
and choppy and the exhaust note is over the top. Some controls are
behind the times, and the gear selector is unintuitive. Rear-seat room
is generous, but the optional third-row seat is tiny. A stronger SVR V8
are available. A P400e Plug-in Hybrid with 31 miles of electric range
is new for 2019.Overall Score 50

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
The Evoque is more about style than function. The 2020 model rides
on a new platform, and gets a new exterior inspired by its Velar
stablemate. Our early experience with the new Evoque indicates that
there is a pronounced initial delay when accelerating from a roll-
ing stop. The ride is rather stiff but handling is nimble. An optional
mild-hybrid version, designed to smooth the stop-start transitions,
is denoted as the P300. The infotainment system consists of two
screens, echoing other Jaguar/Land Rover models. We find it fussy
and a bit slow to respond to commands. The Evoque features stan-
dard automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assist, along
with other optional safety features.Overall Score NA
