Volkswagen Arteon

The Arteon is Volkswagen’s f lagship sedan and a replacement for
the sleek, coupelike CC. In addition to a more athletic look, its larger
interior addresses one of the main complaints we had about the CC.
All trims are powered by a punchy 268-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged
four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmis-
sion. Handling is mildly sporty, and ride is firm, yet steady. Front-
wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available. The cabin
exudes a premium feel with nice luxurious touches. The standard
8-inch touch screen is easy to use and features Android Auto and
Apple CarPlay compatibility. Standard safety features include for-
ward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian
detection, and blind spot warning.

Toyota Yaris

Both the Yaris sedan and hatchback are nicely equipped and
makes an ideal first set of wheels or economical commuter car
that’s light on fuel budgets and a snap to park. It’s powered by a
smooth and quiet 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that isn’t brimming
with power. Still, the six-speed automatic’s well-matched gearing
gives the car good acceleration. Fuel economy is an excellent 35 mpg
overall. Handling is agile and more engaging than many compet-
ing subcompacts. The ride isn’t harsh, but the cabin can get loud,
especially on the highway. The controls consist of a rotary knob that
interfaces with a dash mounted screen for audio and phone func-
tions. The learning curve for the system is not very steep.
