Klimov has been appointed
to the International Skating
Union (ISU) technical committee as
an athlete representative for singles
and pairs skating.
“We needed an athlete and he
understands the discipline better
than most members on the technical
committee,” said ISU vice president
Alexander Lakernik.
Maxim Trankov, applauded the
appointment. “Pairs skating should
be developed, but today they are
doing the same short program as 20
years ago.”O
n June 24, the
IOC announced
that Milan-
Cortina would host
the 2026 Olympic
Winter Games. The
only other candidate
was Stockholm-
Åre, Sweden.
“We look forward
to an outstanding and
sustainable Olympic
Winter Games in
a traditional winter
sports country,”
said IOC president
Thomas Bach.
“The passion and
knowledge of Italian fans, together with experienced
venue operators, will create the perfect atmosphere for
the best athletes in the world.
“Milan-Cortina 2026 prioritizes sustainability and legacy,
as 13 of a total 14 facilities will be existing or temporary.”7

GYPT held its first
national figure
skating competition
on July 6 at the Sun City
Mall in Cairo. Egyptian and
foreign skaters competed
at the event, which
was judged by officials
from the International
Skating Union.
The head of the Egyptian National Council for Sport
told local media that Egypt is actively promoting the
sport with the hope that participants can one day
qualify for an Olympic Winter Games. Skating officials,
in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports
and the Egyptian Olympic Committee, are planning to
hold a national competition in the near future.
The governing body, Ice Skate Egypt, was founded
