Whether Busy Philipps is tack-
ling baking projects with her
daughters, Birdie, 11, and Cricket, 6,
or helping them paint clay master-
pieces, the Dawson’s Creek alum, 40,
is all about getting crafty (and
messy) with her girls, she tells Us.
(Dad is Philipps’ hubby, Marc Silver-
stein.) Considering the actress asked
for “oil pastels and nice colored pen-
cils” for her birthday as a young girl,
she sees a lot of herself in her little
ones’ interests. She spills more about
her creative kids to Us.
Q: Do you think Birdie and Cricket
will follow in your acting footsteps?
I wouldn’t be surprised, but I’d be
happy to encourage my children to
follow whatever passion speaks to
them. I want them to live happy,
full lives.
Q: Do you and Marc have similar
parenting styles?
Coparenting with anyone is tricky
because you grew up in two differ-
ent houses. I’ll just say my default
setting is a lot louder than his.
Q: How do you try to empower
your daughters?
We make sure they feel as though
their voices are heard. We’re very
open and talk about everything in
age-appropriate ways.
Q: How do you set a good example
for them?
You have to own up to your own
mistakes, be willing to admit when
you’re wrong and make an effort to
show up.
