You South Africa – 22 August 2019

(Jeff_L) #1
Anne remembers tasty tea leaves (YOU
Say, 8 August). I remember a thick layer
of rich cream on a bottle of milk.
SYDNEY, SMS

In response to the letter about the joy of
long-distance relationships (YOU Say,
8 August): Dineo Makala, you’re truly
blessed with such a loyal partner. During
my first three years of marriage my hus-
band lived in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga,
while I was in Roodepoort, Gauteng. Not
so far away from each other, yet he was
still unfaithful. So, heartbreak! Unlike
yours, our love won’t age like red wine.
JOY, EMAIL

I found out that my husband is some-
one’s sugar daddy. He’s almost 50. Now
he’s falling apart because I found out and
I’m leaving him.
ANGRY, SMS

In response to John Shabangu who wrote
in expressing his regret after losing his
close friend who was murdered: he de-
serves more than a winning letter (YOU
Say, 11 July). So true are his words. My
deepest sympathy to him.
BILL NOLAND, SMS

Getting ready for bed? Fifteen minutes
before you get into your night clothes
take a hot-water bottle, wrap your night-
ie or pyjamas around it and put them
under the covers on your bed. Wow,
what a lovely way to get warm in this
cold winter we’re having.
LORNA, SMS

A friend gave me a beautiful brown
dressing gown that she wasn’t using. I
put it on and looked in the mirror. Big
mistake, I looked just like a giant walking

late stage in life. Our pets contribute so
much to our life, making it less lonely.
I wholeheartedly agree with Cat-lover
that governing bodies and administra-
tors of townhouses, old-age homes and
retirement villages should rethink their
policies about pets.
We might be old but we’re still able to
love and care for our pets. Please think of
our cherished pets as our family.

Magnificent women
August being women’s month always
brings a huge smile to my face. It
brings to mind those women who’ve
played a vital role in my life: my mom
who gave birth to me and offered me
all that a mother can give her child; my
grandmother who took care of me
while my mom was out working; and
my aunt who was strict with me to the
point that I thought she hated me.
That was until I grew up and realised
she was trying to shape me into a re-
sponsible person.
I also want to show gratitude to the
woman in my life today. She makes
sure I always look good and that I
don’t go to bed without having some-
thing to eat.
I really appreciate these women and
consider myself one of those luckiest
men in the world.
LETLADI WA GA-MPHAHLELE, MARALALENG

SWhen you look at women such as
Michelle Obama, Winnie Madikizela-
Mandela and Graça Machel, you real-
ise women are the real architects of
society.
You can feel a woman’s innocence in
the form of a daughter ; her care is felt
in the form of a nurse; her warmth in
the form of a friend; her passion in the
form of a lover; while her dedication is

felt in the form of a mother.
You can break a woman temporari-
ly, but she’ll always pick up the pieces,
rebuild herself and come back strong-
er than ever.
Where there’s a woman, there’s mag-
ic. And when we as women support
one another, incredible things happen.
SARAH SEBONGELE MOKOENA, HEILBRON

SSince the dawn of democracy many
strides have been made to empower
women in our country. But it’s worry-
ing that many are still sidelined.
Our society still doesn’t believe in
women’s ability to be good leaders or
their ability to perform certain jobs.
And it’s sad that some men still see
women as sex objects.
That men still offer women jobs in
exchange for sex is an insult to all
women. Some people also discredit
successful women by claiming they
slept their way to the top.
Women work hard to reach their
destiny. All they need is to be given
equal opportunities to showcase their
talents.
To enjoy our hard-earned freedom
we must uplift one another by estab-
lishing more development projects for
women.
