Canoo to build


subscription-only


mobility model


Los Angeles-based Canoo
(formerly Evelozcity), plans to
make EVs available via a sub-
scription-based model.
Canoo hopes to offer four
EVs in select cities by sub-
scription only. In an effort to
reduce design and production
costs, it plans to use a single
standardized EV platform. The
company also says it will re-
place the traditional three-box
car design, which has separate
compartments for the engine,
passengers and luggage, with a
design that maximizes interior
space.
Canoo also announced a
handful of new hires, including
Clemens Schmitz-Justen, for-
mer President of BMW Man-
ufacturing, and Olivier Belllin,
formerly of STMicroelectronics,
a Swiss manufacturer of semi-
conductors.
The company plans to launch
its first vehicle in the US in
2021, followed by a model for
China.
