NUMB THE PAIN Throw
a foot-numbing cream
or spray in your day-of
clutch and apply it the
minute your soles start
to ache. The best ones
contain lidocaine, which
can ease pain for up to
three hours.
TRY Pillows for Your Feet
Stiletto Rx Foot Spray, $25.

TIP Practice walking
in your shoes before the
big day, and gently
scuff the bottoms with
a Brillo pad to avoid
slipping. Lace pumps,
$1,190, Oscar de la Renta;

A

BRIDE CAN BE ON HER FEET FOR EIGHT HOURS STRAIGHT,
so choose your shoes wisely. Elongated shapes and wide toe boxes will cut
down on pinching, as will a moderate heel; two and a half inches is the
highest most women can comfortably wear for several hours, says New York
City podiatrist Suzanne Levine. But that doesn’t mean stilettos are off-
limits. Slip on your killer four-inchers to walk down the aisle, then switch to
a pair of lower heels or bedazzled flats for the reception. “If you var y your
heel height during the day, you’re less likely to get blisters,” she says.
Above all, get measured by an experienced salesperson to make sure
your dream shoes actually fit before you buy them. Says Levine,
“I can’t tell you how many people end up in my office simply because
they’re wearing the wrong size shoes!”

HIGH-HEEL HELPERS

HALT BLISTERS If your
shoes start to rub, put
on a Band-Aid immedi-
ately to help prevent
a blister from forming.
Or for a less visible fix,
swipe an allantoin balm
on the trouble spot to
reduce chafing.
TRY Sole Goddess Blister
Protection Foot Balm, $19.

BRING IN
REINFORCEMENTS
Even if you don’t
think you need them,
stick cushiony
insoles in your
shoes to pro-
tect the balls
of your feet.
TRY Foot Petals
Tip Toes, $6.95.

SOFTEN UP The night before the
wedding, give yourself a “foot
facial” to leave feet smooth and
callus free. Soak in warm water,
exfoliate with a pumice stone,
apply a urea-based moisturizer,
and slough off dry patches with a
glycolic-acid treatment.
TRY Eucerin Intensive Repair
Foot Creme, $4.69, and DCL AHA
Glycolic Acid Pads, $42.
