hit with critics or

audiences—

many families

found it not

friendly at all—

but Henson con­

sidered it his

most personal

film, and over

time it summoned

a devoted

follow ing fueled

by home­

entertainment

releases, con­

vention appear­

ances, and

collectors’

merchandise

(including, for

some reason, a

line of perfumes).

Company spent

years develop­

ing a movie

sequel prior to

the deal for the

prequel series,

which CEO Lisa

Henson hopes

will last multiple

seasons and
