for October or are simply cutting

01/ Leitz Eins Zwei
Zero Riesling
There are few de-alcoholised
wines on the market worth
drinking. In fact, this might
be the only one. It’s fairly
sweet, but “regular” Riesling is
often sweet, too. It smells and
tastes a lot like the real thing,
though with roughly a third
of the sugar. Pair it with spicy
food, especially coconut
curries, or drink with seafood.

03/ GinISH
Quite possibly the best alt-gin
on the market, this Danish drink
uses a chilli extract to mimic
alcohol’s warming mouthfeel
- and a little of the healthy
endorphin release, too. Even
served neat, it’s very similar to
“real” gin, and has all the right
botanicals, particularly juniper.
Special mention also to RumISH,
which makes exceptional
faux-spiced-rum cocktails.

02/ Brooklyn Brewery
Special Effects
Though it’s meant to be served
chilled like lager, this is brewed
with Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo
hops, like ale, so it’s more
interesting than other low-ABV
beers (it’s 0.4%). Brooklyn has
a unique process for extracting
more flavour, yet less alcohol.
Its low carb count makes it a
smart bet for your belly, too.

04/ Aecorn Apéritifs
Created by the makers of
Seedlip, all three apéritifs –
bitter, dry and aromatic – can
be served over ice, or with a
mixer. The bitter is intense, with
bay leaf and citrus; the dry is
herbaceous and fresh; and the
aromatic has notes of caramel
and toasted nuts. They’re
made with a base of verjus,
a folk remedy rich in healthy
plant flavonols.
