It is no secret a lot of runs are being
scored in Coors Field this season and
that both the Rockies and Red Sox are in
the bottom 10 of the majors in ERA from
starting pitchers.
German Marquez and Rick Porcello
were supposed to start Tuesday with
both owning ERAs of 4.75 in 2019.
Marquez has had very bad splits at
Coors Field, with a 6.23 ERA and
opponents are hitting .317 off of him, so
him getting scratched Monday
afternoon may not hurt the Rockies
much.

While Porcello’s 5.49 ERA and 1.6 home
runs allowed per nine innings do not
elicit confidence, he has had some solid
starts recently, giving up three or fewer
earned runs in five out of his last six
starts, and the Red Sox are 6-3 in his last
nine starts.
Recent form is also not in favor of the
Rockies in the bullpen, as it entered
Monday with the third-worst bullpen
ERA in baseball in August while the Red
Sox have the best bullpen ERA this
month.

Howard back to Lakers
Dwight Howard has
rejoined the Lakers six
years after his acrimonious
departure.
The eight-time All-Star
center and 15-year NBA
veteran agreed to a contract
with the team Monday.
Howard led the NBA in
rebounding while spending
the 2012-13 season with the
Lakers, but he clashed with
Kobe Bryant and
subsequently spurned the
Lakers as a free agent. He
bounced to six franchises
after his departure, while
the Lakers haven’t made
the playoffs since.

Chiefs sign one Moore QB
The Chiefs lost backup
quarterback Chad Henne
to a fractured ankle in their
penultimate preseason
game, and they signed
veteran Matt Moore to
provide depth behind
starter Patrick Mahomes.
Henne will have surgery
on the ankle he broke
during Saturday’s game
against San Francisco.

Vikings’ Hughes off PUP
The Vikings activated
cornerback Mike Hughes
from the physically unable
to perform list.
The 2018 first-round pick
has been working his way
back from a torn left ACL
suffered in a Week 6 win
against the Cardinals.
Hughes finished his
rookie season with 22
tackles, a forced fumble
and an interception he
returned for a touchdown.
He also ran back two punts
for 13 yards and four
kickoffs for 107 yards.

Miller done for season
Lamar Miller has been
placed on the injured
reserve after the Texans
running back tore the
anterior cruciate ligament
in his left knee in a
preseason game last
weekend.

Vols suspend star CB
Tennessee coach Jeremy
Pruitt suspended Bryce
Thompson indefinitely
following the cornerback’s
Saturday arrest on a
misdemeanor domestic
assault charge.
The suspension leaves
Tennessee without one of
its top returning defensive
players heading into
Saturday’s game against
Georgia Southern.

Reds, Castillo reel in Fish

Don’t let the door hit you on the way
out. Fans booed QB Andrew Luck after
word leaked mid-game Saturday that he
was retiring: “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t
hear it. Yeah, it hurt.” Lenny Dykstra, who
sold his home in Linden, N.J., after the
community complained about his lifestyle,
handled his exit a bit differently, telling his
neighbors to “go f--k themselves.”
Returning to Miami on Tuesday. Lost
with the Phillies there Sunday when
Bryce Harper was out on paternity
leave. Reds are in and Luis Castillo gets
the ball. He was pounded for eight runs
two starts back against St. Louis but

rebounded nicely, limiting the San
Diego Machados to one run over six
strong. The Marlins’ Caleb Smith
provided numerous quality starts
earlier in the year, but his August line
reads: 1-3, ERA 5.66 and a dozen walks.
Assuming no one goes out on paternity
leave, we will take the Reds for 10 units.

Cards rode a six-run second inning to
an easy 12-2 win over the Brewers.
Yadier Molina and Paul DeJong with
homers. We scored but we’re still down
-822 williemcgees.
