Thompson. While there is a snow flap
available for the end of the tunnel we are
not sure it is necessary as the sled tem-
perature stayed down in warm and cold
conditions. It helps that you can keep the
ice scratchers down as they are now
reverse compatible.

■ (^) Renovated runners
The full-length extruded aluminum grid-
style running boards allow for better
foot-forward position too, giving better
weight geometry and greater control to
the rider. The way the running boards
are cut, snow buildup is virtually nonex-
istent, and there is plenty of room and
grip without being heavy to allow the
rider to quickly jump from one side to
the other.
■ (^) Limiter strap
The new rear suspension tMotion limiter
strap aims to modify the suspension
allowing the rider to choose between a
more grounded front end or a more play-
ful one. While limiter
straps in the past were
usually ignored due to
the inconvenience of
adjusting, the tMotion
adjuster gives riders two
options for tailoring the
ride without having to
crawl under the sled.
■ (^) Enriched ergos
and smoother shocks
The Expert Package includes additional
ergonomic tweaks that make the sled
easier and more comfortable to ride.
Some of these include lower seat height,
smaller diameter handlebars, and a lower
and softer handlebar strap that isn’t
continually bumping your
face. Additionally, the
handguards are flexible,
allowing for easy adjust-
ment without breaking.
We also like the nar-
rower seat, a great improve-
ment for shorter riders without sac-
rificing anything for tall ones.
Developed by mountain-riding expert
Carl Kuster, the FORTY7C is narrow and
light and the geometry allows riders to
initiate moves more freely.
The shocks also have been upgraded
with a Kashima coating that gives the
Expert one of the plushest rides with
buttery piston movement. These shocks
help riders take on the trail and moun-
tain experience with the comfort we
expect from Ski-Doo.
■ (^) Rider efficiency
It also should be noted that the things
we loved about the Summit remain, like
the proven and reliable Rotax 850
E-TEC engine, the SHOT starting
system and the REV Gen4 plat-
form. Before the improve-
ments, Ski-Doo already had
one of the most compli-
ant mountain sleds.
Couple that with this
year’s revamps and effi-
ciency is the winner, not
just an efficient motor, but an energy
savings for the rider.
With this machine you can have fun
and still have energy left at the end of
the day. And, with the machine doing
much of the work for you, the Expert
Package proves you don’t have to be an
expert to ride like one.
A LOT TO LIKE Everything about the Expert Package, from the handlebars to the running boards, is nearly perfect. We challenge anyone to find
something they don’t like about it!
