A LIGHTNING strike
forks out of an enormous
storm cloud which
seems to tower over
the landscape.
The breathtaking
pictures were taken by
snpper Kevin Palmer, 26,
a dedicated “storm
chaser” who followed the
ominous thundercloud.
Kevin said it was
an ideal night for
watching the storm as a
full moon gave the cloud
a silver tint.
He said: “The night
couldn’t have been more
perfect for watching the
lightning.
“A full moon
helped to light up the
landscape and gave
the thundercloud a
silver lining.”
He watched the storm
in the city of Sheridan,
Wyoming, in the US, and
said that he stayed in
the same spot for hours
as multiple storms
rolled by.

Kevin said: “I had
never seen lightning
jump out of the clouds
the way it did that night
so I was excited to be
able to capture it.
“Several factors came
together to make it the
perfect night for lightning
photography.
“The storm moved
slowly and wasn’t too
close or far away.
“And there weren’t any
passing clouds in the
way to hide the stars.”
Kevin has been
following extreme
weather in the northern
part of the US for
three years.
Originally from Moreno
Valley, California, he
moved to the city
Sheridan, which is not far
from the scenic Bighorn
Mountains and
famous Yellowstone
National Park.
He said that he grew up
fascinated by lightning
and big storms, and was
inspired to take up the
risky hobby of storm
chasing after seeing
how others criss-crossed
the country looking for
the dramatic weather
events.
He often shares his
striking collection of
pictures on social media.
Kevin said: “This
year’s been one of the
better storm seasons.
“In July there was a
very active pattern with
quite a few tornadoes.”
