Right-handed starter Carlos
Carrascois expected to be activat-
ed Sunday by the Cleveland Indi-
ans after being sidelined since late
May while battling leukemia.
Manager Terry Franconasaid
Carrasco, 32, is making a final re-
hab start Thursday at triple-A Co-
lumbus and then join the Indians
bullpen as a September call-up.
“What’s really more important
in life, by a big distance, is his well-
ness,” Francona said. “He seems so
excited to be pitching again, and
we’re excited to have him.
“He’s a big part of us. He knows
that, and he knows he’s cared
about. But it’s going to be fun hav-
ing him back.”
Carrasco is 4-6 with a 4.98
earned-run average, and 83-68
with a 3.78 ERA in 10 seasons, all
with the Indians.

Alonso sets record

There’s plenty more time for
Pete Alonso to accentuate an
amazin’ rookie season with the
New York Mets.
When the 24-year-old first base-
man homered Tuesday to set the
Mets season record with 42, he did
it with 31 games to spare.
Todd Hundleyin 1996 and Car-
los Beltranin 2006 each hit 41
home runs for New York.
Alonso became the first rookie
in 81 years to set his team’s season
home run mark.
“It’s been a dream come true for
me so far this year, and I just feel
really blessed and honored,”
Alonso said.
