I was born in New York in 1968, but grew up with my two brothers in Florida and
Texas. Although I always played the class clown at high school, I didn’t get into
acting until I went to university, when I joined a drama group. I earned a master’s
degree in acting in New York in 1994, and a year later made my Broadway debut
to critical acclaim. Around the same time, I made my first movie, a small part
in Sleepers. The films Inventing the Abbotts and Without Limits followed, and
although I lost out on the main role in Titanic to Leonardo DiCaprio, I went on to
star in Almost Famous alongside Kate Hudson. Over the next decade, I appeared
in major projects, including Mission: Impossible III, The Good Shepherd and
Watchmen, but always returned to the stage, earning multiple Tony Award
nominations. More recently, I’ve appeared in the double-Oscar winner Spotlight
and the blockbuster Alien: Covenant, but I remain a dedicated stage actor,
appearing alongside such luminaries as Sir Ian McKellen. My previous partners
include Mary-Louise Parker, Claire Danes and Naomi Watts. Who am I?
