ROKSANDA ILINCIC KNOWS what women want. The
London-based fashion designer makes the sort of clothes
women wear to impress other women, and feel gorgeous
while they’re at it. Her cocktail dresses are sculptural,
sophisticated and come in a paintbox of bold colours;
even her website describes her style as unmistakably
woman-centred. So when Roksanda, who studied
architecture and fashion, was commissioned to design
the interior of this three-bedroom London apartment,
her approach was always going to push the envelope
on feminine style. Here’s what we can learn from her...

APPLY COLOUR
WITH CONFIDENCE

The palettes of Roksanda’s collections typically range
from Rothko-like reds and maroons to punchy pinks.
She opted for the same traditionally feminine colours
throughout this project, but the effect is elegant rather
than sickly sweet. The trick is to apply them like a bold
lip – go for rich shades that will make a statement, but
keep the base simple. Roksanda chose white kitchen
cabinets and kept all the flooring neutral, which gave
her the freedom to decorate with dramatic artworks,
curtains and bedding in a spectrum of rosy shades.

ENHANCE CURVES

Rounded contours and pillowy volumes are a hallmark
of feminine style, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add
your own edginess. By contrasting smooth silhouettes
with angular ones, this living space feels both sensual
and modern because the strong shapes of the coffee
table and armchairs balance the softness of the sofa,
floor lamps and curtains. Don’t just embrace curves
