‘Enchanting Switzerland’ (May)
While reading this article, I was excited to glimpse the word “edelweiss,” the national
flower of Switzerland, and the picture of it. The song
is one of my favorite English songs, learned more than 30 years ago. The melody Edelweiss sung by Julie Andrews
resonated in my mind when I read along with the beautiful article on Switzerland.
I drank in views with the author when she experienced the magic moment in trekking
along the wine trails in the Lavaux terraced vineyards, which could be traced back to
the 12th century. [There’s] such [a] historical ambiance: medieval villages, towers and
castles, including the most visited monument in Switzerland—the castle of Chillon.
In my opinion, thanks to the administration of the government and the kind-hearted
people with [a] farsighted view [of] living in Switzerland, they wisely organize and make
good use of the resources of the country, from developing international jazz festivals
[and] maintaining historic heritage sites to preserving verdant, clean land. The reasons
above [are] undoubtedly [why] Switzerland fully deserves the name of “paradise.”
Sincerely yours,
Violet Chang (張益寧)
