BASE
1) On a comfortable length of
thread, and leaving a 6-in. (15 cm)
tail, use color A 11 0 seed beads
to work a cubic right-angle weave
(CRAW) strip that is 13 units long
(figure 1). End and add thread
as needed.
2) Using As, work a CRAW unit
off one side of the last CRAW unit
to form a corner unit. Continue
to work in CRAW off the corner
unit to add five more CRAW units
(figure 2).
3) Using As, work a joining unit
to connect the last unit added to
the side of the first unit to form
a half-moon shape, making sure
the CRAW strip is not twisted
(figure 3) (only the top view of
the CRAW shape is shown in the
remaining figures for clarity).
4) Sew through the beadwork
as needed to exit the bottom A
on the top surface in the end
unit of the 13 unit strip, with the
needle facing away from the edge
(figure 4, point a).
5) Pick up an A, and sew through
the next A along the bottom edge
on the top surface of the beadwork
(a–b). Repeat this stitch six times
to complete the row (b–c).
6) Sew through the next two As
on the top surface in the same end
unit to exit the A along the outside
edge (c–d). Work as in step 5 to add
As along the outside edge on the
top surface (d–e).
7) Sew through to the bottom sur-
face and f lip the beadwork over.
Work as in steps 6–5 to add As
along the outside and inside edges
on the bottom surface. Sew through
the beadwork to exit the inside-edge
A on the top surface in the next unit
as shown (figure 5, point a)
8) Pick up a color C 15 0 seed bead,
and sew through the next A along
the inside edge of the top surface
(a–b). Repeat this stitch nine times
(b–c). Sew through the beadwork
to the bottom surface
to exit the corresponding inside-
edge A, and repeat these stitches
to add Cs to the bottom surface.
FRINGE
EMBELLISHMENT
1) Sew through the beadwork
as needed to exit the top-surface
outside edge A in the end unit
on the right side, with the needle
facing away from the beadwork
(figure 6, point a).
2) Pick up a color B 11 0 seed bead
and a color D 15 0 seed bead, skip
the D, and sew back through the B
and the A your thread exited at the
start of this step to form a one-bead
fringe (a–b). Sew through the next

two As on the top surface of this
unit as shown (b–c).
3) Work as in step 2, except pick
up two Bs to create a two-bead
fringe (c–d).
4) Work as in step 2, except pick
up three Bs to create a three-bead
fringe (d–e).
5) Pick up four Bs and a D, skip
the D, and sew back through the
last two Bs just picked up (e–f),
pulling the thread tight to form the
first branch of the fringe. Pick up
two Bs and a D, skip the D, and sew
back through the two Bs just added
to form the second branch of the
fringe. Continue back through the
first two Bs added and the A your
thread exited at the start of this step
to complete the fringe (f–g). Sew
through the next two As on the top
surface of this unit (g–h).
6) Work as in step 5, except pick up
three Bs on the second branch (h–i).
7) Work as in step 5 to form the
first branch of the fringe (i–j). Pick
up four Bs and a D, skip the D, and
