Lochcarron of Scotland is a five-star
VisitScotland tourist attraction and is the
largest remaining working textile mill in the
Scottish Borders. Lochcarron of Scotland,
based in the beautiful Scottish Borders
town of Selkirk is located about 42 miles
south of Edinburgh. The town has a long
and rich history within the textile industry,
and Lochcarron of Scotland are proud to
still design and weave there as the world’s
leading manufacturer of authentic tartans.
The Scottish Borders also has a long and
significant history with rugby, being the
birthplace of the sevens, which originated
in Melrose, Scotland in the 1880s. Not
only is the Melrose Sevens tournament
still played annually but many of the other
Border towns host their own tournaments.
At Lochcarron of Scotland they offer a
wonderful shopping experience within the
Lochcarron Visitor Centre, where visitors can
browse from a wide selection of products
and gifts which have been designed and
made in the mill. This is the opportunity to
have a custom ‘made to measure’ item such
as a kilt, tailored skirt, serape or some tartan
trews, possibly for that special occasion.
The staff are fully trained to measure for a
full kilt outfit and they carry a wide range of
complimentary accessories. For wedding
planning, this is the perfect place to pick
out gifts for groomsmen or bridesmaids.
Lochcarron of Scotland offer a full tartan
design service allowing clients to design
their very own unique tartan which can
be linked to their family or company,


then once this tartan is designed, it can
be woven and made in to a wide range
of products from kilts to accessories.
Within the Lochcarron of Scotland
experience, take a mill tour and find out
how they design, weave and create their

are conducted by experienced guides,

where you can unwind with a delicious
locally sourced coffee or light snack.
