tirling County have confirmed
the first half-dozen names on
their Super6 roster, with Andrew
Goudie, Andrew McLean, Billy Dineen,
Logan Trotter, James Pow and Reyner
Kennedy all signing on ahead of the
competition’s inaugural season. ll six- split
evenly between forwards and backs -
featured for the club last season.
In the backs, utility back Andrew Goudie
has been added to the squad as cover for
the stand-off position, while former Scotland
U18s player Andrew McLean, a product
of the Stirling County youth system, is “an
excellent outside back option for the central
Scotland side, according to Head Coach
Ben Cairns.
Another product of the club’s youth section,
Logan Trotter adds to the side’s back three
options, with Cairns heralding the 20-year-
old’s speed and kicking ability as good
additions to the squad.
In the pack, 24-year-old prop Billy Dinnen is
added to the squad’s front-row contingent,
with Cairns hoping that the player can thrive
in Stirling’s Super6 environment.
Another front-row player, 25-year-old
hooker Reyner Kennedy has chosen to
make the step up to Super6 level after 14
years at the club, and, although he is still
recovering from a long-term injury, Head
Coach Cairns is confident of what he can
add to squad.
Packing down behind his fellow forwards,
lock James Pow has signed on for the
upcoming season too, with the industrious
22-year-old looking to continue his
development with the club.
Former Scotland centre Cairns said:
“It’s great to have the first six players
announced.
“From the beginning, our priority has been
to assess the players already at the club
and secure the guys we believe have
the potential to excel at Super6, and this
announcement is a reflection of this.
“All six of the players announced today still
have their best rugby years in front of them,
and I am really looking forward to working
with them to achieve their goals.”
On the players themselves, the
ex-Edinburgh centre said: “Andrew Goudie
was one of the most consistent players
for the club last season. He’s an excellent
trainer and his game has developed
massively since coming to County.
“I first coached Andy with Scotland U18s
in 2016-17. He’s had a frustrating spell with
injuries, but we are hopeful he can now kick
on with a good run of fitness.
“He’s an excellent outside back option,
comfortable at 13 or on the wing, he’s got
quality feet and offloading ability and could
be a real game breaker for us.
“Logan has all the qualities to be an
excellent back three player. He’s tall, very
quick, he kicks well and has good handling
ability.
“He still has huge ambition to play pro
rugby, and Super6 should provide the
perfect shop window for him to display his
talents.
“Billy is still relatively young for a prop. He’s
had a fair amount of change in his life in the
last year but he’s in a good place now and
we are looking forward to seeing the gains
he can make with improved support around
him.
“We believe he can really thrive in our
environment.
“Reyner is an excellent set-piece hooker.
“He hasn’t trained with the squad since
I came into post, however, he’s shown a
real desire to get back fit as quickly as
possible, which is exactly what I want from
my players.
“James is an honest, hard-working player
who will put his body on the line for the
good of the team. He’s another who has
come on a lot since joining and has the
attitude to accelerate that development
even further at Super6 level.”
