SCOTLAND KITS FOR RUGBY
WORLD CUP UNVEILED
he Scotland kits for the Rugby
World Cup 2019 have been
officially unveiled, and they
feature two unique tartan elements,
connecting the team to both its home and
the host country for the sport’s largest
global showpiece.
The Scotland home kit is the traditional navy
blue with the Scottish Rugby tartan featuring
on the back and shoulders of the jersey and
side-panelling of the navy shorts, paired
with white socks.
To highlight Scottish Rugby’s strong ties with
Japan and its long-standing relationship with
the Japanese city of Nagasaki, which will
host the arrival and acclimatisation camp for
Scotland’s Rugby World Cup squad ahead
of the tournament, the Nagasaki tartan is
displayed under the collar of the jersey.
Scottish Rugby signed a Strategic Alliance
with the City of Nagasaki in 2016 and
have made regular visits to the city to help
support initiatives to promote the sport and
the historic relationship with Scotland.
An U16 squad, drawn from nine Schools of
Rugby across Scotland, toured Nagasaki
only last year and the ties to the city
date back even further after Scottish
businessman Thomas Glover helped the
industrialisation of the country based out of
Nagasaki in the 19th century and became a
household name in Japan.
The alternate kit changes from the current
silver colouring to sky blue and again
features both the Scottish Rugby and
Nagasaki tartan. The shorts are also sky
blue with tartan detailing and the socks are
a combination of sky and navy blue.
Both kits have the Scotland logo
embroidered on the left-hand side of the
chest, with the Rugby World Cup logo sitting
on the right-hand side and the new Macron
‘hero’ logo featuring in the centre. The
Saltire returns on the left sleeve.
The kit is produced with the Macron-
designed ARMEVO + Bodytex fabrics and
brings back the Scottish Rugby tartan which
featured on the extremely popular RWC
2015 kit. The Rugby World Cup jerseys are
available in the Authentic Body fit jerseys
(those worn by the players) and are also
available in a replica jersey which is the
carbon copy of the authentic jersey in a
supporters fit.
Gianluca Pavanello, CEO of Macron, said:
“Scotland was the first international team
we designed for in rugby and we are very
proud to have the opportunity to create the
shirt which will represent the country at this
year’s Rugby World Cup.
“We have a very positive relationship with
Scottish Rugby as demonstrated by our
recent long-term contract extension and
this design has been developed hand in
hand with our partners to bring together all
the respective elements combined with our
leading performance fabrics.”
Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer,
Dominic McKay, said: “I’d like to thank
Macron for their excellent work on
Scotland’s 2019 Rugby World Cup shirt and
kit.
“We naturally kept the traditional Scotland
designs and also wanted to bring in new
elements which reflected our relationship
with both Nagasaki and a connection with
our home country.
“I think the kit looks great and know our
players and our fans will be wearing it with
pride over the coming months as we once
again take the thistle onto the international
stage.”
