ur latest Rugby Gen!us, 72-year-old Gordon Becket,
began supporting Scotland as a boy listening to matches
on the radio. He’s seen the game change hugely,
“International players are huge now and so fit. The game is so fast
and physical.”
Gordon grew up in Dunoon where football and shinty ruled and so
never actually played rugby. But he’s always loved watching the
game. “There’s been many great Scotland players over the years,”
he recalls “but my favourite was John Rutherford. Such an elegant
stand-off.”
Gordon has also seen beer change greatly over the decades. “I
grew up drinking light ales which were such easy drinking. Now so
many beers are so strong.” Having won £100 and a case of Gen!us,
Gordon has tasted a blast from the past, “I’m not usually a lager
