THIS ISSUE HIGHLIGHTS AMERICAN IRON MAGAZINE FROM
2002 to 2004—good years in the motorcycle busi-
ness and for the magazines that cover them.
2002 was awash with Harley clones to meet
the amazing demand for American V-twins that
H-D could not keep up with. We rode and re-
viewed many S&S-powered V-twins like Big Dog,
Panzer, American Ironhorse, Big Mike’s Chop-
pers (BMC), and others. Our June issue featured
a handmade custom Spiderman-themed chopper
from a little-known father and son team called Or-
ange County Choppers—OCC! It sold better than
we had expected. Our August issue was a massive
220 pages chock full of great reading and the ads
to support all the editorial. We featured another

OCC bike (a Discovery Channel TV bike) on the
November cover, and it too sold very well.
In 2003 we featured an Indian Larry chopper
to great fanfare. Then, after years of knocking it,
Harley unveiled its new synthetic oil in our April
issue. Then another OCC chopper, the Trim Spa
bike, on the cover in June. October was a special
All-Harley issue to celebrate the Motor Company’s
100th anniversary. And another OCC bike (Fire-
man chopper) on the November cover.
We started the 2004 year testing new Buell and
Victorys. Then a streak of fat 226 to 288 page is-
sues through the year! Man, that was a lot of hard
work for our team to create and share that much
editorial—but we had fun doing it. $,0
