Sara was spot on in issue #377. We all
started riding bikes and moved to small
dirt bikes. The motorcycle industry
needs to realize that smaller platforms
will remain vital to attracting new
riders. Don’t forget the emergence of
metric bikes in the ’70s.

ALL IN THE FAMILY
One of my best Father’s Days ever was riding on the rural roads of the
Sierra Nevada foothills with my son Ian who was home on leave from
the Air Force. I recently acquired a 2019 Street Glide Special, and Ian
was riding a 1999 Dyna Low Rider. I bought the Dyna from my father-
in-law, a former flat track racer, who purchased the bike new but has
been unable to ride for several years due to medical conditions. A tank
flush and carb rebuild started the ball rolling; paint, powdercoating, and
replacing parts followed. A bike brought back to life, a son who loves to
ride, and a family legacy of motorcycling. Father’s Day couldn’t get any
better for me.

In the latest issue of Garage
Build magazine, you’ll find
a feature about a dynamic
Sportster built in just about
any room you can find in a
house. The bedroom. The
living room. The garage. And
what a job he did. We’re
thrilled to feature this and
many other homebuilt mo-
torcycles four times a year.
Issue #418 is final installment of
our brand-new quarterly, and it’s been a rousing suc-
cess. We’re already working on the follow-up issue, as
well as American Iron Salute, so we’ve got plenty more
home builds to share. Subscribers to Garage Build are
also entered into our Indian Bobber sweepstakes. Go
to GarageBuild.com to check out the work your fellow
riders are doing on their bikes, and even submit your
own work for a chance to be featured in the magazine!

I’m writing to see if you would like to
print this picture of my 2-month-old
grandson sitting on my bike (2011
Road King). When we put him on it
the look on his face looked like he was
saying, “Oooo. What is this? I like it.”
