he annual Art Issue is one of the House and Leisure
team’s favourites – we get to take you along with us as
we explore homes owned by artists and art lovers, as
well as cover some of the latest developments in the art
world. In short, the art issue presents a summary of
what we think is HERE / NOW in contemporary art.
This year, we discovered an art-filled homestead in
Limpopo(p70),persuadedartistandcuratorKarelNel
toshowusaroundhishouseinJohannesburg(p78),and
managedtogetstarphotographerTrevorStuurmanto
poseforaportraitandrevealhisnewhometous(p38).
WealsotalkedtoiconicSouthAfricanartist
WilliamKentridgeontheeveoftheopeningofhis
majorretrospectiveshowsatZeitzMOCAAandNorval
FoundationinCapeTown(p32),andfoundoutmore
aboutthecountry’slatestartmuseum–theremarkable
Javett-UPattheUniversityofPretoria(p34).
