ALL AT SEA
Ford’s PR team came up with all sorts of stunts to announce the introduction of the
Capri 50 years ago, but this must be one of the most unusual. Working with local main
dealers, J Davy, a Mk1 was launched off the slipway at the Cammell Laird shipbuilding
yard in Birkenhead on February 5, 1969. The Capri was sent into the Mersey with a
bottle of champagne smashed onto the bumper by the then-Miss Liverpool, Margaret
