CELEBRATING
FAST FORDS
THAT DEFINED
A DECADE
SEEING THE LIGHT
I read your ‘How to install spotlamps’ feature in
the August edition and felt that while it was
correct, there were a couple of little niggles that
I could not let pass.
First, if the intention is to use the spotlamps
seriously then steady braces are required. The
front panel of any classic Ford is just not stiff
enough to stop the lamps vibrating which, if you
are really pressing on, is annoying to say the
least. There are many commercial versions
available or it is quite easy to make up your own
custom steady using threaded rod and a couple
of rod end bearings as shown in the above
photo. Alternatively, a straightened-out Jubilee
clip is a ver y popular adjustable steady in rally
circles, although perhaps not very elegant.
Secondly, creating a small dent in the bumper
is fine, but you really should have said ideally
use a centre punch.
Excellent magazine as always — I hope you
don’t mind me wearing a pedant’s hat.
